RECIPE BOOK · SAVE TO RECIPE BOOK

Privacy policy

This policy explains how Chris Olding operates Recipe Book at recipes.fishman01.com and how the Save to Recipe Book Chrome extension handles information.

Effective date and last updated: October 8, 2026

Information we handle

Recipes you choose to import

When you click the extension button, it reads structured recipe data from the current page: the recipe name, description, ingredients, instructions, photo or photo address, servings, preparation time, cooking time, total time, and nutrition when available. It also reads the current page’s full URL so you can return to the original recipe. URLs may contain query parameters; avoid importing private links or links containing sensitive information.

The extension opens your selected Recipe Book website with this information as an import draft. The website receives the draft to prepare it for review. A recipe is added to your library when you select categories and click Save recipe. The extension has access to Food Network’s image server (food.fnr.sndimg.com) solely to download a selected recipe photo when you click Import. These requests omit credentials. When copying the recipe photo, the extension may briefly scroll the photo into view and process a temporary screenshot locally. Only the cropped recipe photo is sent to Recipe Book; the complete screenshot is not stored or transmitted. Your scroll position is restored. This process does not collect your complete browsing history or scan pages in the background.

Account and library information

The website collects your name, email address, password, and optional phone number when you create an account. It stores a salted password hash rather than your plaintext password. It stores your saved recipes, photos, categories, category order, favorites, sharing settings, and shopping lists (including ingredient quantities, checked items, and recipe references), community-sharing settings, comments, star ratings, and meal plans (dates, meal names, linked recipes, serving counts, and notes). Manually entered recipes and saved HTML files submitted for import are also processed to provide the library.

The extension itself does not read your login form, passwords, authentication cookies, emails, or personal messages. Recipe nutrition is information about the recipe; we do not request medical records, health measurements, or health profiles.

Settings, cookies, and technical information

The extension stores your chosen Recipe Book website address locally in your Chrome profile. It does not store your account password or recipe collection in extension storage. The website uses an essential session cookie to keep you signed in, with a maximum lifetime of seven days. Signing out invalidates that session.

Requests to the website include technical information such as your IP address, browser request headers, and requested address. The server temporarily uses IP addresses to limit repeated sign-in and registration attempts. Cloudflare processes network requests to deliver and protect the site. We do not use this information to build advertising profiles or determine your precise location. There are no application analytics or advertising trackers.

How information is used and shared

We use information to import and save recipes, organize your library, authenticate your account, provide sharing you request, respond to support and privacy requests, and maintain the service’s security.

We do not sell user information, use it for advertising, or transfer it for purposes unrelated to the service. Information may be disclosed when required by law or necessary to investigate abuse and protect security. Administrators can view account contact details and recipe counts, edit account details and roles, reset passwords, and delete accounts and their libraries. The operator has administrative access to stored data; private imported data is not read except with your consent for support, where necessary for security, or as required by law.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Save to Recipe Book’s use of information obtained through Chrome permissions complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. That information is used only to provide the recipe import and library features described here. It is not sold, used for personalized advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness or lending eligibility.

Storage, security, and retention

The website currently runs on the operator’s computer. Account and library information is stored in local application files; it is not end-to-end encrypted. The public website uses HTTPS. Passwords are hashed and access to private libraries requires a valid account session.

Account and saved library information is retained while your account remains active, unless you delete recipes or request deletion. Sessions expire after seven days; expired records are cleared during subsequent sign-ins. Sign-in rate-limit records are short-lived, generally fifteen minutes. Infrastructure providers may retain technical logs under their own policies.

Deleting a recipe removes it from your active library and disables access through its share link. Downloaded photo files and historical backup copies may remain until separately removed by the operator. For complete deletion, including associated photos and any retained copies under our control, contact us. We will verify the request and explain any information that must be retained for legal or security reasons. No security measure can guarantee protection against every risk.

Your choices

You can edit or delete recipes, change their categories, and turn off sharing from the website. Disabling a share link prevents future access through this service but cannot remove copies already made by recipients. You can change the extension’s website address in Options, or disable or uninstall the extension in Chrome. Uninstalling does not delete recipes stored on the website.

For access to your account information, correction of your contact details, a copy of your data, or deletion of your account and associated library, email the privacy contact below. There is currently no self-service account deletion or account-profile editor. We may ask you to verify account ownership; do not email your password.

If you contact us, we handle your email address and the information you provide to respond to your request. Our email provider also processes that correspondence.

Changes to this policy

This policy describes the current service. If we introduce new data collection or change how information is used, we will update this page and the Chrome Web Store disclosures before introducing those changes, and provide any required notice or consent request. The updated date appears at the top.
