Install and pin the extension
Install from the Chrome Web Store
- On your computer, open Chrome and open Save to Recipe Book in the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome, review the permissions, then click Add extension.
- Open Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions menu beside the address bar.
- Click the pin beside Save to Recipe Book. Its orange icon will appear beside the address bar.
Store installations receive updates through Chrome. Developer mode is not needed. When an update adds a permission, Chrome may ask you to approve it before using the updated extension.
Alternative: download and install the ZIP
The ZIP is a manual installation of version 1.0.3. The store version may differ while an update is awaiting approval.
Download extension ZIP (1.0.3)
- Download the ZIP and extract it into a folder you will keep.
- In Chrome, type
chrome://extensionsinto the address bar and press Enter. - Turn on Developer mode, then click Load unpacked.
- Select the extracted folder containing
manifest.json. - Open Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin Save to Recipe Book.
Keep the folder in place. To update a ZIP installation, replace its files with the newer ZIP contents and click Reload on the extension’s card at chrome://extensions. Your website setting is kept. If you switch to the store installation, remove the unpacked copy to avoid duplicate icons.
Import your first recipe
- Open the full recipe page on the original website and wait for it to finish loading. Use the individual recipe page, rather than a search result or collection page.
- Click the orange Save to Recipe Book extension icon.
- A new Recipe Book tab opens. Sign in or create an account if asked. After signing in, the recipe review opens.
- Review the recipe name, ingredients, instructions, and photo. Prep time, cook time, total time, servings, and nutrition are included when the source provides them.
- Check one or more categories, or click Create a new category to add one.
- Click Save recipe. Open its category to find the saved recipe.
Clicking the extension prepares a draft. The recipe is added to your account when you click Save recipe. You can correct the draft before saving.
Nutrition is copied from the source when available; it is not estimated. Check imported details against the original page.
Set the correct website address
The website address is https://recipes.fishman01.com.
- Right-click the extension icon and select Options.
- Enter
https://recipes.fishman01.comin Recipe Book address. - Click Save settings. Use Open Recipe Book to check the address.
Do this if an older installation still opens a local network address such as 192.168.1.101:8686. Settings are saved separately in each Chrome profile.
Troubleshooting
The website won’t open, or shows a connection error
Confirm the extension’s address is https://recipes.fishman01.com, then try opening the website directly. Recipe Book currently runs on its owner’s PC. That PC must be on, connected to the internet, and running the server and Cloudflare Tunnel. If the address is correct and the site is still unavailable, try again later or let the site owner know.
“No recipe was found” or the extension shows an exclamation mark
Open an individual recipe page, wait for it to load, reload it once, and try the extension again. The extension reads structured recipe data published by the website; some sites do not provide it. Chrome’s internal settings pages, the Chrome Web Store, and other protected pages cannot be imported.
If the page still cannot be read, open Recipe Book, click Add recipe, and try its URL import. The same form also offers manual entry and a saved HTML page import. A saved page needs structured recipe data too.
The website’s URL import is blocked
Some recipe websites block automated downloads. If a pasted URL returns a 403 or another import error, Recipe Book shows an Open recipe page button and browser-import instructions. Your pasted URL is kept. Open that recipe website normally in Chrome and click the extension. It reads recipe data from the page you have loaded, so it can work when the website blocks Recipe Book’s direct URL import.
Signing in didn’t open the recipe review
Make sure you have signed in to the account you want to use. Return to the original recipe page and click the extension again. Keep the new Recipe Book tab open until you have reviewed and saved the draft.
A photo, time, or nutrition value is missing
The source may not publish that field in its recipe data. Version 1.0.3 of the extension copies a loaded recipe photo directly from Chrome, so Recipe Book does not need to download it again. For Food Network, Chrome can download the photo directly using access restricted to its image server (food.fnr.sndimg.com). Approve that image-server permission when Chrome asks after updating. If direct copying is blocked, the page may briefly scroll to the photo while the extension captures only that photo and restores your scroll position. Close any pop-up covering the photo and keep the recipe tab active until the library opens. If the photo is missing, reload the recipe page and try again. You can add or correct the photo URL and cooking times in the review form or under Edit recipe. Nutrition appears only when supplied by the source. A recipe can be saved even when its photo cannot be downloaded.
I can’t save the imported recipe
Choose at least one category, enter a recipe name, and include ingredients and instructions. Correct any error shown in the form, then try Save recipe again. Create a category first if your account does not have one yet.
The extension icon is missing
Open Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions menu and pin Save to Recipe Book. If it isn’t listed, check chrome://extensions and make sure it is installed and enabled. For ZIP installations, keep the original extracted folder on your computer.
Where are my recipes, or how do I switch accounts?
Each account has a separate library. Check the account name on the site and use Sign out before signing into a different account. If you forgot your password, contact the site owner; automated password-reset emails are not configured.
How do I report a problem?
Tell the site owner which recipe URL you tried, the exact error message, and whether you installed from a ZIP or the Chrome Web Store. A screenshot of the error can help. Do not send your password or private account information.
Your private library and shared recipes
The extension reads recipe data from the current tab only when you click it. It does not read passwords or cookies, scan websites in the background, or collect analytics. It opens your selected Recipe Book website with a recipe draft for you to review. Photo capture is limited to the recipe image. A temporary screenshot may be processed locally to crop that image; the full screenshot is not sent or stored.
Your recipes and categories belong to your account. On a recipe page, Share recipe creates a link that anyone with that link can open without an account. Recipients see that recipe and its photo, rather than your private library or contact details. Use Turn off sharing to disable the link. Deleting a shared recipe also makes the link unavailable.
